crumbling empires

5pm yesterday we were all instructed to watch a live video of our ‘great’ leader from the ruthless American publishing company telling us how this was the dawn of a new digital era and not only that the organisation was going to change to make the most of the new ‘opportunities’ but that it HAD to change, they are obviously cacking their pants being one of the biggest newspaper companies in the US and finally realising that youngsters are more interested in blogging and using their mobiles to access content than buying newspapers and with the inevitability of always on mobile access to the internet print will struggle to survive in the coming years. Coincidentally (or not!) Rubert Murdoch gave a very similar speech last night and newscorp recently bought the fun community site myspace (god it’s a horrible thought that it’s in their hand!). so of course my boss, always good for an old knee jerk reaction immediately arranged a meeting with a consultant to make sure we were making the most of our digital offering, cardylady had to sit in a meeting being patronised by 2 men (although actually they didn’t dare!) and my boss – but I sit there patiently listening and nodding and saying my peace but not really taking much note of all this nonsense – I’ve heard it too many times before – the fact is many of these media empires won’t survive and good riddance to them quite honestly with their antiquated structures and culture   fficeffice" />
